Simple Italian Seasoning Recipe

This simple homemade Italian seasoning It is quirky, super delicious and perfect for tossing with salads or used as marinade. Much better than store purchases!

Throw away the store-bought bottles as this homemade Italian seasoning tastes much better. I love that it uses real healthy ingredients so you can feel good about what you eat. I used it in salads, pasta salads and fish and chicken marinated.

I love making my own salad dressings and I share a lot on my blog. Check out all my homemade salad dressing recipes! I highly recommend our Caesar salad dressing and this balsamic vinegar.

Key Ingredients

  • olive oil: If you can, choose high-quality extra-grade olive oil that enjoys the flavor. The flavor of olive oil can change from light and fruity until it is stable and spicy.
  • Wine and lemon juice: This combination brings classic passion, acidic, acidic kicks to this seasoning. White wine vinegar is used interchangeably, and if you don’t have lemon, just make the seasoning with 100% vinegar.
  • Capers and fresh garlic: These are the little secrets of Italian seasoning like us. They added a clever kick to give it some texture. Since then, we first used capers for an olive oil dip and added it to the recipe.
  • Dijon Mustard: One of our favorite ingredients, especially when making vinegar sauce! We also use it to make this honey mustard sauce.
  • Maple syrup or honey: These are usually optional ingredients when making dressings, but in the case of this Italian seasoning recipe we strongly recommend adding a teaspoon to the mixture. It won’t sweeten the seasoning, but it does balance the acidity of the vinegar and lemon juice.
  • Fresh and/or dry herbs: Basic! You can use all fresh, dry or combination based on everything fresh, dry or combination on hand. The following recipe provides fresh and dry ingredients.
  • Parmesan: This is optional, but adds a lovely buttercream element to the seasoning. Pecorino-Romano cheese or Manchestergo is a great alternative.

I found this Italian dressing to be creamy enough and doesn’t require any other ingredients. Surprisingly, what happens when you stir everything together. That is, to make a creamy Italian sauce, stir with one or two tablespoons of sour cream, mayonnaise, or regular yogurt.

How to use homemade Italian seasoning

I love the deliciousness of this seasoning, so I not only use it for salads, although it’s great for most of our salad recipes! Aside from that, though, I like roasted vegetables. Consider making our roasted cabbage or roasted broccoli and throw it away with a little seasoning. Great on fried Brussels sprouts too!

You can also use it for prepared salads like my pasta salad, Orzo salad or this simple bean salad. Finally, you can use it to marinate. Pour over fish or shrimp and marinate for 15 minutes before cooking, or you can marinate the chicken for up to 2 hours.
