Easy Tomato Feta Salad Recipe

Our Tomato Feta Salad and Honey Mustard Lemon Vinegar are a real showcase. It combines peak season tomatoes, fresh basil, simple homemade dressings, and the creamy texture of the surprising, grated feta, and it really stands out.

As all of our tomato recipes prove, we are obsessed with it, especially when summer tomatoes are in full season. This recipe is a fun twist on the classic tomato salad. We keep tomatoes and basil, but rogue with the seasoning, making a quirky honey mustard lemon vinegar that works with tomatoes and feta.

The secret to this salad is to use large holes in the box and then clip the feta to the tomatoes on the plate. The thin grating of feta melts your mouth, every bite of tomato. We can all thank Chef Richard for the tips you can be sure that from now on I will be spreading the feta cheese on the salad. For this type of salad recipe, see our Greek salad with tomato, cucumber and feta or this watermelon feta salad.

Key Ingredients

  • tomato: Choose a slicer or juicy heirloom tomatoes for this salad. You’ll cut them into rounds before drizzling with vinegar sauce. When buying tomatoes you want them to be heavy in size and do smell like tomatoes (if you smell it and they don’t smell anything, then the tomatoes won’t taste as good). For a salad that requires cherry tomatoes, see this cherry tomato salad (also feta).
  • Basil and onion: The sweet Italian basil is lovely, or replaces Thai basil or purple basil (really beautiful!). Then, for onions, if you can do it, use sweet onions like Walla Walla or Vidalia.
  • Feta cheese: Use chunks of sheep cheese sold in salt water. You will use a box grater to grate the feta on the salad. This cuts it into thin strips so you can enjoy its salty kick with every bite. If you don’t have a box grater, you can crash the cheese.
  • Honey Mustard Lemon Vinegar: You can make vinegar sauce with a blender in a bowl, or shake it in a glass jar. It combines fresh lime juice (from 1 lime), honey (maple syrup is a great alternative), salt, cumin, niyang mustard sauce and high efficiency olive oil.

When tomatoes are season, I will enjoy them in every way possible. This tomato feta salad is an outstanding thing, especially when made with our honey mustard lemon vinegar. For large tomatoes like heirloom, it is especially perfect. secret? We used a box grater to scrape the feta directly onto the salad. This makes the feta so delicate that almost every bite of tomato melts in your mouth. I highly recommend it! If you don’t have a box grater, that’s OK. The cardigan collapse effect is also very beautiful. For another recipe for tomatoes and feta, see our Cherry Tomato Salad or this authentic Greek salad!
